We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Legal Director to lead global privacy at Dynatrace. This pivotal role will oversee the development, implementation, and governance of privacy frameworks, ensuring compliance with international regulations. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in privacy law, a strong understanding of global regulatory landscapes, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with teams to embed privacy into the fabric of our operations.
- Lead a team of privacy subject matter experts handling privacy matters, providing them with guidance and coaching, building an esprit de corps across the legal team, and enabling them to work with other legal colleagues and the business to solve business problems.
- Develop and mature a comprehensive, pragmatic, efficient, and effective privacy program across the business – internally and as it pertains to our product.
- Operationalize privacy policy and standards and provide guidance to the product teams on privacy certifications and standards to pursue.
- Maintain knowledge of current product relevant laws and regulations, globally, related to privacy as well as pending legislative and regulatory changes, and enforcement actions to maintain the highest level of expertise.
- Provide expert legal advice and counsel concerning privacy across legal and the business by advising them and collaborating with them on how to implement regulatory requirements in a customer-oriented, problem-solving, pragmatic way while fully adhering to regulatory requirements.
- Act as a thought-leader on the future of privacy and best practices with a particular focus on privacy automation and seeking to find ways to use our own product to support our privacy compliance efforts.
- Provide guidance and counseling on privacy related matters as they pertain to the internal deployment of AI-enabled systems and with respect to the AI capabilities within our products.
- Work collaboratively with peers, creating an environment of mutual respect, trust, and teamwork.
- Understand the legal implications pertaining to privacy of new innovations and collaborate with the business to develop compliance strategies for new technologies.
- Work with colleagues in the Legal team to enable them within their own spheres of responsibility, including working collaboratively on projects as well as driving and delivering training, playbooks, and periodic updates on privacy-related developments.
- Empower Product, R&D, the Transformation Office, and Services teams to build privacy-by-design and default into product and internal system selection, development, and deployment
- Understand and be able to translate into “plain English” the legal ramifications of varied legal and regulatory risks. Provide actionable guidance to decision-makers.
- Employ a commercial orientation when problem solving, understanding the nuances of complicated legal and regulatory issues and able to think creatively to solve problems and mitigate risk while supporting business objectives.
- In collaboration with internal compliance teams, ensure that regulatory analysis compliance obligations are performed and well-documented, and that related controls and risk mitigations are implemented consistently.
- Support privacy due diligence for new business and product acquisitions.
- Suggest improvements, identify best practices, and provide continuous feedback to make the delivery of legal services more efficient and effective.
- Serve on the Boards of our Swiss companies, assisting with management, meeting minutes, and monitoring of inter-company agreements.
What will help you succeed
- Graduate degree in law (J.D., Master of Law, or Professional LLM).
- Permanent resident in Switzerland.
- Comfortable in a rapidly scaling and changing environment; able to perform under pressure and willingness to take on new responsibilities.
- Proven experience providing guidance to business teams on privacy and product related matters ideally with experience handling AI related privacy issues.
- Experience as an in-house counsel at an enterprise-focused technology company, ideally an enterprise SaaS company.
- Experience with and understanding of software technologies. Computer science or software engineering degree is a plus.
- Experience prioritizing, planning, and identifying key areas of improvement.
- Experience managing a budget and making judicious use of outside counsel resources.
- Ability to effectively communicate with executives and staff equally well.
- A problem solver who thoughtfully and effectively communicates guidance and makes it actionable to drive pragmatic, well-informed business decisions.
- Drive and deliver projects from inception to completion, timely and with attention to the details.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting complex legal and regulatory frameworks and applying them effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a global team and collaborate with legal colleagues in different disciplines.
- Experience serving on or supporting a corporate board is a plus
